For all its off road chops I think it would be used as an urban runabout 90 % of the time. Just like the G Wagens, I assume.

I am only going to comment on categories with cars that I know something about. I don’t know anything about any of the urban cars, and not much about the Luxury cars listed, although luxury, I would probably go with the A7, because it is a 5-door sedan, and I’ve liked it for a long time, it isn’t an SUV, and it isn’t BMW’s copy of an Aston Martin, like 8-series is.
World Performance Car of the Year:
McLaren 720S. Perhaps the epitome of the traditional solely- engine- powered automobile, before hybrid technology begins to surpass that technical level. The chassis and dynamics are head-and-shoulders innovative above just about everything, to make a car that is both light weight, and monstrously powerful, also manageable, and perhaps even EASY to drive fast.
World Green Car of the Year:
BMW i8 Roadster. Still one of the most intrinsically- designed Series-Parallel hybrid systems on the market, that can be both plug-in charged and regeneratively charged, and even with a mostly depleted battery, can continue to travel with access to a gas station, or a spare fuel can, and not need to be towed.
Plus, the fact that i8 has only enough engine for what is needed, it is not just an electric motor or several added to a traditional full-sized, high-output ICE drivetrain with a mechanical transmission, like NSX, and hypercars like 918, P1, and LaFerrari. i8 could be faster... granted, but the way to make it faster would be to upgrade the modest battery pack, and the electric motor drive units output first, before upgrading the output power of the ICE power unit
It is also not just batteries and an electric motor that depend on power generation, transmission, and fuel supply at an off-site power plant somewhere. A BEV cannot be refueled at the side of the road, and continue traveling, it would require towing to a recharging point. That is a serious hindrance in most rural areas far from a charging point at home or at a commercial location.
i8 shows the realistic way forward for power-efficient performance, while keeping weight in check with a Carbon Monocoque chassis design, that now even allows open air motoring.
WORLD CAR OF THE YEAR:
I hear good things about Volvo, but I don’t know much about their new products... although XC40 does look like a nice runabout.
I am sure some will suggest that the new Wrangler is important... but I guess none of them stand out in my mind... I’ll defer to others on the overall category judgement.
I wish there were more in that category that actually stood out enough for me to actually care enough about to look into. I am kind of becoming jaded by the mundane level of most new cars.

• XC40 (if the V60 was separate from the S then I’d vote for that; the 60s should be in the Luxury category anyway).
•GLE, I guess? None of those moves my needle. Again, Volvo should have a horse in this heat.
•720S. Sorry, it’s just that damn good.
•I-Pace. Despite the dumb name, it looks great, has an interior to match, and is finally an all-in-one luxury EV package we deserve. If only it were more affordable... Hoping that depreciation takes a hit and I can buy one from CarMax or CPO in a few years, as long as plenty of folks buy them new (please!).
•Jimny. I didn’t know the Soul got updated, or that it was out already (I think? I work next to a Kia dealership so I tend to be up-to-speed on them, then again I didn’t recognize the new Optima when they started coming in).
